Joflo Centrifuges have been designed to offer the highest intrinsic safety apart from the various monitoring instruments and controls. Intrinsically safe design means providing for errors since as Murphy's Law states that "whatever can go wrong, generally does !"

Eg. Our scraper design is such that the physical limits of the mechanism are so located that touching of the knife with the basket is physically impossible. In a non-intrinsically safe design the knife could foul with the basket, but would be restrained by locks ( which can work loose or slip)

The safety features ingrained in the system are :

Vibrations :
The vibration levels in our 60" Bottom Discharge Centrifuge, even with a 10 kg unbalance load in the basket at various speeds, are well within the limits specified under ISO 2372 for this class of machinery under no load conditions !

The machine is also provided with a vibration sensor which signals a power cut-off any time the vibrations exceed a pre-set level.

Cake Thickness Sensor :
A standard proximity sensor signals when the cake is built up to the fullest extent on the basket.

Optionally the machine can be installed with a ultrasonic cake monitoring system, where the actual extent of cake formed can be read off digitally or graphically on the LCD display (MMI)

Lid Opening :
The lid will not open during any operation, or if the basket is moving. If at any stage during the lid opening, closing or hold position; the hydraulic pressure drops; the lid will hold its position and not fall.

When the lid is not properly closed the power cannot be swtiched on.

Scraper Activating :
The Scraper will not activate until the basket speed reaches safe levels which can be set anywhere between 50-80 rpm.

The hydraulic system is such that if the cutting forces exceed a pre-set level, the knife will retract to a safer cutting depth.

At any stage of operation if power fails or hydraulic pressure drops to zero, the scraper will hold its position.

Various other safety locks and features have also been ingrained in the design.
